Die Raubtiere (Carnivora) sind eine Ordnung der Säugetiere (Mammalia). Die Bezeichnung setzt sich aus den lateinischen Begriffen caro, carnis (Fleisch) und vorare (verschlingen) zusammen. Allerdings ernähren sich nicht alle Raubtiere in erster Linie von Fleisch. Neben den klassischen Landraubtieren gehören auch die Robben oder Wasserraubtiere zu dieser Ordnung. Bei weitem nicht alle fleischfressenden Organismen werden zu den Raubtieren im engeren Sinne gezählt. Denn andere räuberische Tiere (Prädatoren), wie etwa Haie, Raubsaurier, Raubbeutler oder Adler werden zwar umgangssprachlich bisweilen auch als Raubtiere bezeichnet, doch sind im wissenschaftlichen Sinne nur die Angehörigen der Säugerordnung Carnivora unter dem Begriff zu verstehen.
